Summer has come to the Stillpoint Farm Mercantile!
We say goodbye to spring as the summer fruits and vegetables start to roll in. Look for local, organic Blueberries and peaches. We have started to dig new potatoes and have sugar snap peas, summer squash, greens including Kale, Rainbow Chard, and Romaine from Chestnut Creek Farm. Soon to come will be tomatoes and sweet corn.
Fiber folks – Be sure to stop by the mercantile. We have several washed Leicester Fleeces available, both white and colored for hand spinners or those looking to do fiber projects. The hand-woven lap robes and blankets made with wool from our sheep really are exceptional. They could be just the thing for a special gift for someone (or yourself!)
Also returning are Sandy’s Creations. These handmade fabric items feature crossbody purses and wallets, zippered pouches, and more.
Whispering Breeze Dairy
We would also like to introduce you to our newest vendor, Whispering Breeze Dairy in Taneytown, MD.
Whispering Breeze Farm was founded in 1901 by Warren and Lydia Brower. With determination to create an inheritance for future generations, he bought four cows that he milked in a tie stall barn. He passed the family farm down to his son Vernon and Sarah Brower who increased the herd to 40 cows. The growing family business changed hands to Vernon’s children, Paul, Sterling and Treva. Paul, while working the dairy farm, also drove a milk truck and was a Pioneer seed salesman for 45 years. In addition to milking the now 60 cows, they raised 2,000 turkeys and 1,500 laying chickens, selling to restaurants and local families.
After a devastating barn fire in 1985, Paul’s son and current owner Donald and his wife Lisa rebuilt the barns and the business in 1986. As a proud fourth generation farmer, Don enrolled the farm in land preservation and modernized the farm. He imparted his knowledge and talents to the fifth generation of Brower men, his sons Adam and Eric.
Adam and his wife Katelin work with Don to continue to improve, modernize, and diversify the family farm business. They are continuing the family legacy of raising the next generation of farmers.
